I fought the law and the law won 11:11 a.m. & 03 June 2002
An odd thing last night: I hung out with MaintenanceMike, and we ended up going to Barrie in search of the Star Wars cereal with the Clone Trooper helmet. Unfortunately, it being Sunday, everything was closed, so we got coffee (really, iced cappuccino and peach drink) and went to Sunnidale Park, where we were sitting in the car and talking. (No, really, that's all. We're just friends.) About fifteen minutes after we got there, the Barrie City police pull up and get out with their flashlights, and come right up to us, shining them in our eyes and asking for ID. So we hand it over, and they take a really long time to examine mine, going so far to ask, "How exactly do you pronounce your name?" before calling us into HQ to see if we had any outstanding warrants. They made us wait for almost 20-25 minutes while the call came back to say that we were fine, and pretty much the only apology we got was, "We wanted to make sure that no one was smoking any drugs up here." Well, great.
The only thing was very irritating, because we were treated as though being young was a crime. It was purely coincidental that I actually had my ID on me--I usually don't, since I a) don't drive and b) don't drink (or more correctly never have the money to drink) but it was with my bank card when I went to grab that. GOod thing, too.
I wish it had been the OPP instead of Barrie City, 'cause then I could've been all "Perhaps you know my father? Sgt. Stu?" and that might have been funny.
All in all, it was a very odd experience--I actually felt as though I'd done something wrong, instead of just having a neat Star Wars converstation with a new friend from work while drinking iced cappuccino.
