in a couple of days they're going to take me away 3:38 p.m. & 06 November 2002
For something silly, hop on over to Academia Nuts and check out the Modernist Limerick that my friends and I wrote today.
Tonight is the English Department social for term one. English Department socials largely tend to be lots of fun, involving free food and prizes, silly poems and also earnest poetry being read. Tonight's is the first one that's been held off-campus, and they're going to be doing a trivia game based on our profs. Should be good times. OUr 18th Century prof gave us the period to write limericks for tonight, which is where the aforementioned Modernist Limerick came from.
I got my museum assignment back in History and received a 90 on it, which is great because that's 10% of my final mark. I remain hopeful that this first year course thing will totally boost my average.
Magma received its first sponsorship yesterday--the head of the English department gave us a much needed $20, which means the next issue should have 8 pages instead of 6. We also got an email from a local author who wants us to review a copy of his book about life in Millgard Penitentiary in Kingston. The Athletic Centre is also supposed to be contributing for this issue, as is the Women's Centre, which is excellent. Things are shaping up well.
I got Margaret Atwood's The Bling Assassin for Christmas last year and I still haven't read all of it. Not for lack of desire to, but due to time constraints etc.
School is pretty much my life right now...my Canadian history paper is due in two weeks and I'm just starting to get my act together now, which I'm not sure is a good thing. I'm sure it will turn out well, provided I can figure out what I want to say.
The weekend of my parents' anniversary is also the weekend that the second Harry Potter movie is going to be released, which makes me really excited. One of the first things that Mike and I did together (together alone) was watch the first movie, and so I'm really happy that I get to go see this one with him on opening weekend.
But I've got articles to read and snotty historians to deflate, so I'm off!
