have yourself a merry little christmas
9:22 a.m. & 22 November 2002

My FTP experiment has finally worked! huzzah! Bless my university server space. I'm bus nerding it up by downloading Christmas songs in preparation for a gift I'm sending to someone...maybe several people depending on how well the mix turns out. I'm a closet fan of Christmas music, you see. In my family, the rule is that my parents are allowed to start playing Christmas music as soon as it starts to snow, which is usually early-mid November where we live. As a result, by the time the second week of December rolls around, I usually want to kill someone, but now that I've moved away from home, it's funny what you miss. Because I do miss that, and very much. In compiling this CD, I've come to realize how much some of these songs have become part of my Christmas mindset, and it just isn't the same without them. This Kylie Minogue version of "Santa Baby" is ass, though. I need to find the Eartha Kitt version--it's far superior.

Five Songs It Would Not Be Christmas Without

  • Christmas For Cowboys - John Denver
  • Ave Maria - Harry Connick Jr.
  • Mary's Boy Child - Boney M
  • Last Christmas - Wham
  • Where the River Meets the Sea - John Denver and the Muppets

You wouldn't think that Boney M, of all people, would make good Christmas music. But they do. I remain, however, unfulfilled in my quest to find Johnny Bower (yes, he of former Toronto Maple Leafs goalie fame) singing a song called "Honky the Christmas Goose" (we have it on tape back home, so I know it does exist) or the "Ringo Deer" song (Instead of antlers on his head, he's got Beatle hair!)

I signed my life away yesterday to the bank. Apparently it should take about a week for them to courier the forms down to Elmvale, get my mom to sign them, and then get them back up here. But I will have money, and finally be able to purchase new cartridges for my printer. And maybe a new winter coat. the zipper's coming off the one I have right now.

I almost squished a small child on the bus going up to the school yesterday morning. It was really crowded, so I had to stand, and we took a really sharp turn really fast, and I lost my balance and fell, and I had to brace myself on the window of the bus. between me in the window was a small child. it was scary. The child was unharmed, but I may be scared for years to come.

I *heart* Stuart McLean.
