now it seems it's only black and white

Gah. My computer has been really assy lately, despite my tender vaccuuming out of its nether regions, and I've been trying to save my use of it for school-related work only. Word keeps shutting down on me, which is really frustrating, because I still have three essays left to write. Gah.

My hands are pretty dry, and it's kind of gross. We got out schedules for next year today, which was pretty exciting. Mine's not too bad. I do have 8:30 classes on monday and wednesday (and four classes on each of those days) but Fridays off again and I'm done at 11:30 on Thursdays. A lot of people are complaining about the 8:30 classes, and saying that it isn't fair to put them at that time because they won't be able to get up for them. I find this sort of frustrating because, I mean, in a year 90%+ of us are going to be in teacher's college--where there are a lot of early classes--and after that we're going to be teaching, where school starts between 8:30 and 9, or if you're really unlucky, at 8. What do you think you're going to do then? Just not show up for part of the morning?

The classes I'm taking are pretty interesting though (yay for post-colonial lit!) which I think will go a long way towards making next year fun. There is also, apparently the possibility of the return of my beloved Professor H. from last year for an Honours seminar class, which would be super kick-ass awesome.

I got my 'in-class poetry analysis' of Christopher Smart's "Song to David" back today and I got a 78, which was a great relief. It was pretty touch and go, but he said he liked my ideas.

The Journal of Psychological Social Psychology? Whatever.

I hung out with Greg for a good portion of yesterday, which was intriguing a always. We had a fairly in-depth discussion about a lot of things--mostly the nature of love, the fear of loneliness, the 'university of marriage' and where exactly our lives would lead us. The best part was our discussion of music, particularily in defining differences between emo and indie:

Greg: So, uh, what is the difference anyway?

ME: You know, I'm not really sure, I just know that there is one. Oh wait. I think that it's sort of liek the difference between modernism and post-modernism. You know, where modernism is all 'high art', that's kind of what idea rock is like, it's all about being very exclusive--sort of a cultural elitism with music. Whereas the post-modern aspect of being emo is that it's about pop culture. You know, you see the emo girls with their glasses like mine and their Hello Kitty accessories.

Greg: Yeah, and their Emily shirts! Have you seen the Emily shirts?

Me: Yeah! that's it exactly.

Is this a fair assessment of what it is to be emo? I'm not really sure. I do kind of wish that I was fifteen again, though. If I was fifteen, I could be so emo, it wouldn't be funny.

Yeah. I have to write an essay for sociology on the implications of the labels that teachers place on students and how it can affect student development. Someone should really just kill me now.
