only time will tell if we stand the test of time 11:15 p.m. & 16 April 2003
What an odd duck of a day. I seem to be swinging between highs and lows a lot more as I get close to the end up the year, and this has me worried.
I wrote my Canadian history exam today and it went well-ish. My first essay was right on, but the second essay (on the origins of Quebec nationalism) was rubbish. I had nothing but a handful of loosely connected facts. Ah well. At least it will be a well-written conglomeration of loosely connected facts.
I got my final project back for that class, and received 32 of 35 marks for it. Boo yeah. The prof has also recommend to me that I go to grad school, as he thinks that I would thrive in that sort of environment. Of course, he also thinks I should take a second degree in history, and I'm starting to think that maybe isn't a bad idea. The area that I'm thinking of focussing on if I do go to grad school for English lit is very closely connected to history anyway, so I doubt I'll ever really escape from it. Whee! I'm quite excited about this, and I'm really glad he liked my project.
I do worry, however, about going to do my master's, because I fail to see how that makes me any better off than if I just do my BA. Which means I have to do my Ph.D., and while I would love to be a university prof, I don't know if I'm a) smart enough for that; b) have the drive to get there; and c) want to be in school and broke for that long.
Not much else is new. Not going home for Easter--my first one away from home since I did my exchange to France back in '97. My dad turned fifty yesterday. I bought him the DVD of Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? It is good stuff.
He's really excited about being fifty, because he is officially able to retire as of yesterday. (Yeah, the OPP used to take their boys really young). Of course, I think he'd be foolish to retire right now because he still has two other daughters to put through school and because he'd have nothing to do all day and no reason get up at 4 a.m. and go out for really early coffee and breakfast. He wants to be a DJ for people his age so that when they go to weddings and retirement parties etc. they don't have to listen to our crappy new music. Shake yo ass!
Yeah. I can't think of any really relevant things that I may or may not have done or thought about lately to tell you guys about, or even just to record for posterity. Thanks for reading. I promise some day it will be worth your while.
