does your mother know that you're out?

My school really sucks. I realize that pretty much any institution of so-called higher learning is bound to have some pitfalls, foibles, or quirks, and predominantly my attitude towards these at Nipissing is indulgent, because, well, I love me some Nipissing, and it gives the school character. Like the crooked staircase.

But every once in a while, it makes me want to scream. Whether it's the fact that I dropped another $126 on books yesterday (in addition to the $100 spent in December, and the approximately $75-100 that I will spend when the rest of the books come in) (after spending $500 on books last term) or the fact that half the books I need weren't there; the fact that we have the smallest university library in Ontario; the fact that somehow only 14 books were ordered for a class with 23 people in it; and then when I went to have the book printed, they promised it would be done by the end of the day and it wasn't; or any of the other small things that drive me crazy...yesterday was just a crazy day.

But I did get to see Lost In Translation, which I liked but did not quite understand, and would like to see again. Yay, North Bay Film!

What is really good is that my overall average for the last term was 83% (which is excellent); my average for my honours classes is 84.5%, so as far as grad school goes, this will help quite a bit. School this term will be challenging, but also interesting...we have some really great assignments to do, including web-based learning modules for a first year class at Georgia Tech in Atlanta. Lots of reading though, and I might even enjoy my feminist theory class, and that is just crazy.

The White Stripes do a really interesting version of Dolly Parton's "Jolene".

bah.
